The Centre for European Culture, education through art

The Centre de Culture Européenne (CCE), located in a magnificent Royal Abbey of Saint-Jean-d'Angély in France, hosted from 1989 to 2018 thousands of European high school students with art as an instrument of dialogue and achievement.

In May 1999, an entire second class of the Lycée Chrestien de Troyes, accompanied by two teachers, practiced Europe, learning to live with an Italian and a German class. For 15 days, conferences, workshops, visits, organizational meetings, fun activities followed one another in an ongoing dialogue to reflect on the meaning of what was shared. Every afternoon, about fifteen high school students of each nationality were guided by an artist to create together a perennial work, then presented to a real audience. Director, sculptor, videographer, writer, fresco artist, musician shared the group.

In the workshop led by Jean-Jacques Jolinon the students made with great enthusiasm a fresco reproducing the Noah's arch of the Romanesque church of Saint-Savin-sur Gartempe. For them and their two teachers, Marie-Noëlle Clément and Dominique Sabroux, this experience was crucial to their personal and professional careers.

The considerable energy drawn from this meeting in 1999 led, in a lasting way until today, multiple European projects and the diffusion of a prestigious art, the fresco.

"For twenty-five years, the CEC has devoted its energies to meeting the unlikely challenge of giving young high school students, regardless of their social origin, nationality or culture, full confidence by offering them the opportunity to discover know-how, to create together with high-level artists, it is possible to see the birth of passions, enthusiasms and vocations that the official national teachings do not allow. It is always by crossing the walls that Europe will build itself."

CZECH

Centrum evropské kultury, výchova uměním

Centrum evropské kultury (CCE), umístěné ve Francii v úžasném opatství Royal Abbey of Saint-Jean-d'Angély, hostilo v letech 1989 až 2018 tisíce evropských středoškolských studentů, kteří zde pracovali s uměním, jakožto s nástrojem mezinárodního dialogu a porozumění.

W maju 1999 cała druga klasa Lycée Chrestien de Troyes, w towarzystwie dwóch nauczycieli, ćwiczyła Europę, ucząc się żyć z klasą włoską i niemiecką.
